'Breseight Australia' is the current contract
holder for the manufacture and supply of superstructure for types 84, 92, DDF,
MDF and NGN
equipment.
Breseight installation staff has been certified as Telstra
Contractors to work at any nominated
Telstra exchange. Breseight staffs has EACS access to exchanges.
Breseight has successfully installed superstructure in many
exchanges throughout Australia. Reference can be supplied on application.
In addition to this, Breseight has been involved in
installations Australia wide during the last 12 years. Work typically
included superstructure ironwork, extending MDF Frames, cable tray, and ladder track.
Due to the sensitive nature of the equipment in these
exchanges Telstra has set down some guidelines and procedures to avoid
disruption within the equipment in the exchanges and maintain continuity of
service. Amongst other things they specify that only Telstra approved products
be used for ironwork superstructure support.
Some of the advantages of following
these guidelines are:
-
Items are purchased in kit form with drawings and
installation instruction.
-
When assembled to drawing all ironwork superstructures
will pass any Telstra inspection.
-
All Breseight/Telstra designed products have already been tested and therefore
they are adequate for their intended
purpose
-
The finish of the material used is in accordance to
Telstra standard.
-
Superstructure as assembled to supplied drawings has
engineering approval and sign off on structural design for the application
Some disadvantages in using other material are:
- If sub-standard superstructure ironwork is
used additional work is created simply by having to design the ‘new
installation’ i.e., layout drawings.
- If sub-standard superstructure ironwork is used, a Telstra inspector
may reject the installed product, causing the parties involved to
compensate Telstra the cost of replacing it with correct ironwork.
- The finish of most commercial products are substandard to Telstra’s
specification therefore this would compromise the quality of product
- For OH&S reasons and by way of duty of care, a structural engineer
should sign off any non-standard assembled ironwork. The accumulating
cost of having an engineer sign off every site that does not comply with
Telstra’s specification would prove to be quite costly.
